When to go, how early to book and why travel insurance matters: the planning basics for an Italy trip.
Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are usually the most comfortable, with warm days and fewer crowds than high summer. July and August are hot and busy, and around mid-August many local restaurants and shops close for the holidays. Winter is quieter, with shorter days, and can be a lovely time for cities and food. Tell us when you can travel and we will shape the plan to the season.
As early as you can. The most popular visits, such as the Vatican museums, and some of the best hotels and guides can sell out weeks or months ahead, especially in spring and summer. Starting early gives you more choice and a calmer planning process. If your trip is closer, get in touch and we will see what is possible.
We strongly recommend it. Good cover can include medical costs, cancellation, delays and lost baggage, and policies vary, so read what is included. It is usually best to buy it around the time you pay your deposit, so that cancellation cover applies from the start.
